Today I did it again. For the third time, I filled a shopping cart with more than a hundred different food items — and walked away from it. Not because I wanted to waste food, but because I refuse to stay silent while a broken system pushes millions toward hunger.
Every abandoned cart is a message. A protest. A reminder that something is deeply wrong.
Overbuying Hurts Everyone
Overbuying doesn't just empty shelves. It makes food more expensive for every single person — even for those who buy only what they truly need.
When neuromarketing tricks push shoppers to buy more, demand rises artificially. And when demand rises, prices rise. Not just for the people who overbuy — but for families living paycheck to paycheck, for responsible shoppers, for anyone simply trying to put food on the table.
This isn't a problem limited to people struggling with weight.
This is a problem for everyone.
The Poverty Trap
Rising food prices hit the poorest the hardest. When basic groceries become unaffordable, people are forced to choose between eating less or not eating at all. Food insecurity grows. Malnutrition spreads. Health declines. Inequality deepens.
A world that produces enough food for billions should never allow this.
The Dark Shadow of Hunger
Even today, hunger kills. According to UNICEF, in 2023:
- 733 million people suffered from hunger
- More than 9 million people died from hunger or hunger‑related causes
Nine million lives lost — in a world where the food industry produces enough for 13-14 billion people, while only 8 billion of us live here.
Hunger is not a tragedy of scarcity.
It is a tragedy of injustice.
Why I Fight
Overbuying doesn't just drain wallets.
It drains life from the world's poorest.
This is why I fight.
This is why I leave those carts behind.
